Cork Furniture from Daniel Michalik
Based in Brooklyn, Daniel Michalik has developed a highly-evolved design from cork furniture reuse of non-toxic materials to make several different items including Cortiça Chaise Lounge and Sway Stools. Indeed reuse of materials is one argument for green design, but other than that, Cork Oak trees live for 200 years. After that about 25 years, the cork can detach from the stems every nine years.
All the designs are handmade from reclaimed waste materials directly from the bottle-stopper industry. Of course, all of his furniture is non-toxic, made with marine grade adhesive and a small amount of polyurethane that makes possible of use indoor or outdoor.
The Cortiça chaise is a full-sized lounge on the 72″ x 20″ x 26″, so spacious and comfortable than floating. The shape balances their own to support your weight while offering some flexibility to allow for rocking and relaxing.
With a solid cork center column and perforated side, Sway Stool was designed to do exactly as its name. It tilted a little with the natural movement of your body and adds your health by calling the stabilizing muscles that help to maintain good posture and circulation.
