JEKATE CHAIR by Raymond Simandjuntak
Indonesian designer, Raymond Simandjuntak believes that everything we see and we touch, except from the soil, are designed. Accordance with this motto he has designed JEKATE CHAIR, a rattan lounge chair with random structure inspired by traffic jam in the streets, crowded by cars and motorcycles.
From Raymond Simandjuntak:
I choose rattan as the main material, rattan is an abundant material nowadays, because there are so many materials commonly used for many kinds of furnitures. But in fact, rattan is a nice material, it’s sustainable, its looks beautiful, and its flexible, and due to it’s flexibility, it can be used to create any complex shapes. I would try to give a new look for a material that is already considered classic, towards modern shape thus resulted a lounge chair with unique modern design.

In Asian countries, particular in Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand, and Singapore, rattans are common furniture sets and fixtures to living rooms. This is because it’s strong, cheap, easily available, and its by-products are elegant just like this Jekate Chairs.
At present, a number of European and American homes are slowly adapting rattan-based furniture to their house designs.
